Welcome to Grow Cub, our learning corner at Bear & Cub. Grow Cub was created by the team behind Bear and Cub Play Centre, a play-based early learning space for families. Our resources are designed using the same philosophy we use every day with children and families in our centre.
A gentle, step-by-step foundation to help your child recognise letters, hear sounds, and begin their early reading journey with confidence.

The Grow Cub Complete Pre-Literacy Pathway
A gentle and playful introduction to early literacy.
This pack isn’t about simply completing pages.
Each activity is designed to help parents and children learn together through conversation, exploration and interaction. Rather than rushing through worksheets, children are encouraged to notice sounds, talk about pictures and build confidence with letters and words.
The focus is on creating meaningful early learning experiences that feel natural and engaging for young children.
What's inside this pack?
This bundle includes five carefully designed learning packs that introduce the key skills children need before they begin reading.
Section 1 - Letter Recognition
Activities that help children recognise and identify uppercase and lowercase letters through simple, engaging tasks.
Section 2 - Phoneme Awareness
Play-based activities that help children hear and identify the individual sounds in words.
Section 3 - Onset and Rime
Word family activities that help children begin to understand how sounds combine to form words (such as cat, bat, hat).
Section 4 - Common Words
Practice with high-frequency words that children will often see in early reading.
Section 5 - Reading for Enjoyment
Simple early reading activities designed to build confidence and help children experience the joy of reading.

"Because the foundations of reading should be built through connection, curiosity, and moments of joy shared together."

Reading for fun!

Here's what makes the Grow Cub approach different.
We’re not chasing perfection.
We’re not drilling endless sight words.
And we’re certainly not rushing childhood.
Instead, we focus on building confidence, connection, and genuine understanding.
Because when a child feels emotionally safe and capable, learning naturally follows.
Your child doesn’t need to be the smartest child in the room.
They simply need to feel calm, confident, and ready to try.
Let’s build that together.
