School holidays are here! If you’re a parent of little ones, you know this time can be equal parts fun and… well, a little overwhelming. Suddenly, routines are out the window, energy levels are sky-high, and the days can feel just that bit longer. But don’t stress. We’ve got you covered with simple, creative ways to keep your 0–5s entertained (and you sane!) over the break.
What’s On in Bendigo for Little Ones?
If you’ve tried finding school holiday activities in Bendigo especially for under-fives, you’ll know there aren’t many options out there. Most events and programs are aimed at older kids, which can leave parents of toddlers and preschoolers feeling a bit stuck. That’s exactly why Bear and Cub Play Centre exists! We’re the only play centre in Bendigo designed just for children aged 0–5, giving families a calm, safe space where parents can relax and little ones can play, explore, and make new friends.

Special School Holiday Hours To make life easier during the break, we’re open with extended hours:
Monday to Friday: 9:00am – 5:30pm
Saturday: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Whether you need a full day of play or just a morning outing, we’re here to help you survive (and enjoy!) the holidays.
1. Sensory Play at Home
Sometimes, the best activities are the simplest. Sensory bins, think rice, pasta, or even just water with a few cups and spoons, can keep little hands busy for ages. Add a few small toys, and you’ve got a whole new world for them to explore. Bonus: it’s great for their development and gives you a chance to enjoy a hot coffee!
2. DIY Obstacle Course
Set up a little obstacle course using cushions, chairs, and blankets. Crawling under tables, hopping over pillows, and balancing along a line of tape can burn off loads of energy indoors, especially on rainy days.
3. Storytime Adventures
Make storytime extra special by acting out favourite books or creating a “story fort” with blankets. Let your child pick the books and help tell the story. It’s a lovely way to wind down after a busy morning.

4. Explore Local Parks (or Your Backyard)
Fresh air is a lifesaver. Even if you’ve been to your local park a hundred times, try a “nature scavenger hunt”. Look for leaves, bugs, or rocks of different colours and sizes. It turns a regular walk into a mini adventure.
5. Play Dates and Community Catch-Ups
If you’re craving some adult conversation, why not organise a play date with another parent? The kids get to play, and you get to chat. Or, if you need a change of scenery, remember Bear and Cub Play Centre is open for relaxed, safe play (and coffee!) all holidays.
6. Creative Arts and Crafts
Set up a mini art station with crayons, stickers, and paper. Let your child’s imagination run wild. There’s no right or wrong, just lots of messy, creative fun. Sometimes it can be as simple as laying out a few Woolies paper bags and some paint.

7. Special “Theme Days”
Pick a theme for the day, maybe “Teddy Bear Picnic” or “Superhero Day”, and plan snacks, dress-ups, and games around it. It gives the day a little structure and something for everyone to look forward to.
Remember - It’s Okay to Keep It Simple
Not every moment needs to be filled with Pinterest-worthy activities. Sometimes, the best memories are made simply snuggling on the couch or letting your little one “help” with lunch.
We hope these ideas help make the school holidays a little smoother for you and your little cubs. If you need a break (or just a hot coffee you can actually finish), Bear and Cub Play Centre is here with open arms, plenty of space to play, and extended hours to fit your schedule. We recommend booking your play in advance as things are likely to be busy, especially in the morning. If you want to avoid our busy times we recommend waiting until after 11 to pop in for a play!
Wishing you a fun, calm, and connection-filled holiday!
