Spring Play Ideas for Toddlers
Spring is here and there is something so uplifting about the warmer weather, longer days, and all the new things to explore. At Bear and Cub Play Centre, we are loving seeing how the change in season brings new energy and excitement to playtime. If you are looking for some fresh inspiration for your little one, here are some simple spring play ideas that are perfect for toddlers and easy for parents to set up.
1. Nature Treasure Hunt
Take a walk together and collect “treasures” like leaves, flowers, sticks, or rocks. Let your toddler fill a basket or bag and talk about the colours, shapes, and textures you find. You can even make a simple collage or nature picture when you get home.

2. Water Play
A tub of water and a few cups, spoons, or plastic toys can keep little ones happy for ages. Add a few flower petals or leaves for a spring twist. Water play is great for sensory development and always a winner with toddlers.
3. Sidewalk Chalk Art
Head outside with some chunky chalk and let your child create their own masterpieces on the driveway or footpath. Draw flowers, bugs, or anything that reminds you of spring. It is a lovely way to get creative and enjoy the fresh air.
4. Planting Seeds Together
Toddlers love digging in the dirt. Let them help plant some easy seeds like sunflowers or beans in a pot or garden bed. Watching something grow is magical for little ones and teaches patience and care.

5. Bug and Critter Scavenger Hunt
Spring is the perfect time to spot bugs and critters in the garden or park. See how many you can find together. Ladybugs, butterflies, ants, or snails. Bring along a magnifying glass for extra fun.
6. Sensory Bins with a Spring Theme
Fill a tub with dried rice, pasta, or sand and add some toy flowers, bugs, or scoops. Sensory bins are calming and give toddlers a chance to explore new textures and practice fine motor skills.

7. Spring Storytime
Find a spot in the sun or a cosy corner and read some spring themed books together. Stories about gardens, bugs, and animals waking up after winter are perfect for this time of year.
8. Flower Sorting and Matching
Pick a few different flowers from the garden (or use fake ones) and let your toddler sort them by colour, size, or type. It is a simple way to practice early maths and observation skills.
