What a year. When we think back on the moments that mattered most at Bear and Cub, it is not just milestones. It is the tiny everyday memories that add up to a real community. Here are a few community highlights that made our hearts full.
A big milestone
Iur new play structure We finally welcomed the play structure we had been dreaming about, and watching little ones take those first careful steps, then bolder climbs, was magic. Crawlers turned into confident explorers, and parents told us they could actually breathe while still seeing their child from every angle. That was the goal: safety, independence, and calm all in one place.
Meeting new parents, growing our village
Every week, we met mums and dads who were brave enough to say, “Hi, we are new here.” Those first conversations turned into familiar faces, inside jokes, and “see you next week.” We watched friendships start on the soft mats and continue into park meet-ups and coffee dates around Bendigo.
Conversations that mattered
Some chats were light and lovely, holiday plans, snack ideas, the best parks for shade. Others were real, sleep regressions, wobbly days, the mental load. Thank you for trusting us with both. Our hope has always been that Bear and Cub is a place where you can be honest, take a breath, and feel less alone.
Coffee, connection, and little rituals
There is something about a warm cup in hand while your child is happily absorbed in play. We loved seeing the micro-rituals: the “hello” wave at the door, the lap cuddle before story time, the quick check-in with another parent you recognise. Small moments, big impact.
Playdates that stuck
So many of you swapped numbers and set up playdates. At the centre, at the park, at home on rainy days. Those connections are everything in the early years. We are proud to be the gentle backdrop where they begin.
Kind words we will carry into next year
The compliments you shared kept us going through the hard work: “This space feels calm.” “My toddler played for forty minutes straight.” “I finally chatted to another adult today.” “We felt welcome from the moment we walked in.” We hear you and we are grateful.
What we are taking into the new year
Keep it calm: Low-stimulation set-ups that invite deep, independent play.
Keep it simple: Open-ended stations that change just enough to feel fresh.
Keep it human: Space for real conversations, slow coffee, and soft landings on big days.
Keep it local: Listening to what Bendigo families need and building from there.
Thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for showing up, for yourselves and for your little ones. This small, family-run space exists because you believe in calm, connection, and creativity as much as we do. We cannot wait to welcome you back in the new year, refreshed and ready for more gentle adventures.
