Section 1 - Letter Recognition

What's inside?
Letter recognition is one of the earliest building blocks of literacy. It helps children become familiar with the names and shapes of the letters of the alphabet through gentle exposure, repetition and play.
In this section, your child will:

Say each letter name with you.

Trace uppercase and lowercase letters with their finger.

Connect each letter to a familiar word, such as Apple starts with A.
Each page focuses on one letter at a time using clear, traceable letters and simple illustrations.
As they practise, children begin to understand that letters have names, unique shapes, and are all around them in everyday life.
At this stage, finger tracing isn't about handwriting or perfection. It helps strengthen visual memory, fine motor skills and confidence while creating connections between what children see, say and feel.
Most importantly, there is no need to rush. Some children will enjoy repeating the same letter several times, while others will move through the alphabet more quickly. Both are perfectly normal. The goal isn't to master the alphabet as quickly as possible. It's to build familiarity, confidence and a positive relationship with letters that will support reading in the future.

How do I know when my child is ready to start their reading journey?
Every child learns at their own pace, so rather than focusing on age, look for signs that your child is becoming curious about letters, words and books.
Your child may be ready to begin this section if they:

Show an interest in letters or recognising their own name.

Can engage in a short shared activity (around 5–10 minutes).

Recognise a few letters, but not consistently.

Confuse uppercase and lowercase letters.

Enjoy pointing, matching and finding activities.
